Tomorrow Night!! Artifakt 4th Annual Graffiti Jam Featuring Mash Hall
Posted by: Ripley in Art, Artifakt Events, Artifakt News, Artists, Events, General, Music
Tomorrow night at Lo_Fi is our 4th annual graffiti jam. I’m so excited for this event it is going to be EPIC! To make things even better, Lo_Fi has been remodeled and looks super nice. Also, we will be unveiling a brand new mural painted on the side of Lo_Fi. There will be lights in the parking lot so everyone can check the mural out. Finally, with Mash Hall headling our musical acts this event is going to be so much fun!
Here is a sneak peak of the mural below. I have been going by everyday and documenting the progression. I will be making a time lapse video of the mural project and will be posting it soon. I will also be posting finished photos.
Enjoy!
Friday the 13th
Posted by: Ripley in Artifakt Events, Artifakt News, Events, General
I just found out about this local event that should be a good time and it’s completely free-except for the beer garden. The event is the South Lake Union Block Party and proceeds from this year’s SLU Block Party will benefit Historic Seattle, the only nonprofit dedicated to preserving Seattle and King County’s architectural legacy. Supporting Historic Seattle’s longstanding commitment to protecting our local historic buildings is perfectly aligned with South Lake Union’s own values – a neighborhood whose bright future also honors its rich history. A few of the distinctive historic buildings that have been preserved in SLU include the New Richmond Laundry Building at Alley24, the Ford and Pacific McKay buildings as well as the Terry Avenue Building and Van Vorst Building that are part of the new Amazon.com headquarters.
The block party starts at noon but I think that the best time to go will be in the evening to enjoy some beer and these two events:
8:00 – 9:00 P.M.
ZomBcon International presents Thriller Dance workshop by Seattle Thrillers
9:00 – 11:00 P.M.
Cinema on the Lawn Outdoor Movie – Zombieland (Rated R)
If you have never seen Zombieland it’s really good and has one of the best cameo appearance twists ever.
The weather is supposed to be real nice Friday evening so why not get out…drink a little and watch an outdoor movie? And support local Seattle Non-Profit Organizations!

Here is a great resource to help give you an edge in the world of media. I am reffering to Media 911
Please visit their website at the link above. Here is what Media 911 brings to the table:
911 Media Arts Center prides itself on 25 years of providing excellent training opportunities at affordable prices. Our education program offers year-round classes that encompass the complete spectrum of filmmaking. From intensive, semester long video production and screenwriting workshops to evening and weekend classes on editing, sound design, motion graphics and the business of film making, 911 offers a schedule as extensive as many university film programs. We also offer Youth Programs.
All classes are taught by working professionals, and are offered in progression so you can move from beginning to advanced topics. And since most workshops are held all year round you can learn at your own pace by taking advantage of our open and flexible curriculum.
All computer-based classes are taught in our computer lab where each student has their own workstation. This allows students to work along with the instructors and learn while doing, not watching.
Upcoming workshops!

This Weekend!

Busy days ahead. This weekend Artifakt will have an art area at the Photosynthesis festival in Randle, WA. What is Photosynthesis you might ask? Basically, it is a weekend filled with music, art and other cool things. So come find us and check out our art area!
Check out the Photosynthesis web site here
“Photosynthesis Festival is a Collective Flow Production”
Collective Flow was harnessed on a brisk mountain top morning in June.
There people came to laugh and love whilst they danced, light bathed in the moon.
Connections we bred, heart shifts ensued, and Collective Flow Productions found its groove…
Photosynthesis Festival is an exhibition of creativity across and between the senses, harnessing the energies breeding creation and channeling them through artistic expression and sustainable living. We seek to exemplify the symbiotic relationship between the eternal moment we call “now” and our choices and experiences.
Our goal is to combine people from all walks in life, and all tastes in music. We seek a sustainable community fueled by intimacy and ingenuity. We hope to provide a platform where everyone can learn, share and grow. We know how strong we are together, and we wish to use that strength to cultivate unconditional love, compassion, acceptance, and creativity. We wish to expose the beauty in all things and all dreams. Together we create intent from desire, deed from intent, and destiny from deed.
We believe that an experience can build community and awaken the higher self. Our staff is here to meld together the vibrations of nature, technology, and sweet sweet communication. The seedling has sprouted. The moment has come. Add fuel to the fire and BE ENERGY!

Are you looking for something to do outdoors this weekend? Well, then you may want to check out the West Seattle Summer Fest going on all weekend. There will be music, artists, food, beer, and lots of other stuff. www.westseattlefestival.com
West Seattle Summer Fest is a FREE 3-day street fair, hosted by an organization of local area merchants, the West Seattle Junction Association. Now in it’s 28th year, West Seattle Summer Fest is host to dozens of bands, hundreds of merchants and artists, and over 30,000 attendees. Complete with a food court, beer gardens and family activities, this is a true community celebration in the heart of West Seattle.
This year’s festival promises to be better than ever! For 3 days, our merchants will open up their doors and spill out onto their sidewalks to display all the wonderful products and services they offer year-round, while artists and artisans display in the streets. Junction restaurants and a delectable selection of cross-cultural food vendors can satisfy your hunger along the way. Live music on two stages and a large kid friendly family activity area make each day special. And don’t forget the annual Saturday Night Street Dance (now on two stages!) and, of course, West Seattle’s own Sunday Farmer’s Market!

Terra Dreams by Nichole DeMent
Posted by: Ripley in Art, Artifakt News, Artists, Events, General
This is one of my favorite Seattle artists.
Nichole DeMent presents Terra Dreams from July 1 – 31, 2010 at Rock|DeMent visual art space. DeMent’s photo-based images continue her exploration of human nature and environment with multi-paneled compositions that fuse technique and concept. Her large scale rice paper prints utilizing hybrid encaustic techniques and mixed media speak to the larger than life challenges found in our contemporary environmental situation for a strikingly bold body of work with a poignant message.
Artist’s talk at Rock|DeMent on July 17 at 3pm open to the public and free of charge.
Opening reception on July 1 from 6-9pm.

Help Artifakt Artist Jeremy Gregory Make a Difference
Posted by: Ripley in Artifakt News, Artists, Events, General
Jeremy Gregory is going to be “locked up” Hollywood style…that’s right, he is going behind bars at the “Stars for a Cure” Tacoma Executive Lock-up on June 17, 2010, at CI Shenanigans, to help Jerry’s Kids and the Muscular Dystrophy Association. To be released on good behavior he has to raise $2,000 in bail and he needs your help!
All you have to do is click below to make a secure, online donation before June 17th. Your donation will help more than 700 families living in the South Sound. The MDA provides important services to families affected by neuromuscular diseases. Please help provide flu shots, a free clinic, a summer camp, support group, medical equipment, and hope for a cure by helping him make his $2,000 bail by June 17, 2010! Jeremy can’t wait to add you to his list of contributors.
Thanks in advance for your help.
