Tomorrow Night!! Artifakt 4th Annual Graffiti Jam Featuring Mash Hall

Posted by: Ripley in Art, Artifakt Events, Artifakt News, Artists, Events, General, Music

Tomorrow night at Lo_Fi is our 4th annual graffiti jam. I’m so excited for this event it is going to be EPIC! To make things even better, Lo_Fi has been remodeled and looks super nice. Also, we will be unveiling a brand new mural painted on the side of Lo_Fi. There will be lights in the parking lot so everyone can check the mural out. Finally, with Mash Hall headling our musical acts this event is going to be so much fun!

Here is a sneak peak of the mural below. I have been going by everyday and documenting the progression. I will be making a time lapse video of the mural project and will be posting it soon. I will also be posting finished photos.

Enjoy!

This Seems Really Interesting

Posted by: Ripley in Art, Artifakt Events, Artifakt News, Artists, General

Call to artists, photographers, illustrators & graphic designers:

ARTISTS, WHAT’S YOUR VISION OF PEACE?
Soldiers laying down their arms? The look on a child’s face who’s overcome the trauma of war? Picasso’s famous dove? Or something more abstract?

That’s the challenge — and promise — of The Peace Project, an international art competition and exhibition created to connect peace-minded individuals around the world. Artists everywhere, working in diverse mediums, are invited to submit their creative interpretations of peace. Their collective vision will be unveiled September 21, 2010 at a press event at Gallery 9 in Los Angeles, followed by an opening reception on Saturday, September 25. The exhibit will subsequently travel to San Francisco and New York in conjunction with a simultaneous online exhibition.

The Peace Project has attracted an esteemed panel of jurors including Pulitizer Prize winner Karen Blessen, a representative from the Guggenheim and MoMA in New York, the head of Morgan Gaynin (representatives of the world’s top illustrators), a Los Angeles Art Critic, a New York Photographer’s Rep, and other powerful forces in the creative world.

Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three entries. Additional entries will receive Art Supplies.

Terra Dreams by Nichole DeMent

Posted by: Ripley in Art, Artifakt News, Artists, Events, General

This is one of my favorite Seattle artists.

Nichole DeMent presents Terra Dreams from July 1 – 31, 2010 at Rock|DeMent visual art space.  DeMent’s photo-based images continue her exploration of human nature and environment with multi-paneled compositions that fuse technique and concept.  Her large scale rice paper prints utilizing hybrid encaustic techniques and mixed media speak to the larger than life challenges found in our contemporary environmental situation for a strikingly bold body of work with a poignant message.
Artist’s talk at Rock|DeMent on July 17 at 3pm open to the public and free of charge.
Opening reception on July 1 from 6-9pm.

The Artist is Present–Performance Artist Marina Abramović

Posted by: Ripley in Art, Artifakt News, General

This is a pretty interesting exhibit that just ended at  MoMA in New York.

A pioneer of performance art, Marina Abramović (born Yugoslavia, 1946) began using her own body as the subject, object, and medium of her work in the early 1970s. For the exhibition Marina Abramović: The Artist Is Present, The Museum of Modern Art’s first performance retrospective, Abramović performed in the Donald B. and Catherine C. Marron Atrium every day the Museum was open between March 14 and May 31, 2010. Visitors were encouraged to sit silently across from the artist for a duration of their choosing, becoming participants in the artwork. This comprehensive photo gallery contains a record of each participant. Please select “Show info” to see the date and duration of each visitor’s participation.” The Artist Is Present is Abramovic’s longest performance to date.
