Artifakt Artist Profile: Dear Earthling
This week I wanted to feature a local Seattle artist that will be showing next month with us in the Valentine Theme Art show. The artist in question is Dear Earthling. Dear Earthling has a very interesting style that goes beyond 2D; by this I mean, not only does Dear Earthling paint awesome paintings but he also does awesome sculptures too. One reason that I really like this artist is because his pieces are somewhat surreal, and I a HUGE fan of surrealism. Dear Earthing creates on just about anything he can find…I have seen his work on things ranging from paper to canvasses to wood. Also, another great thing about this artist is that his work is affordable. So, if you don’t have $500 to drop on one of his paintings…there is a good chance that there is a print for around $100. Definitely check out his blog here
Enjoy!

Artifakt Call To Artists!
Posted by: Ripley in Art, Artifakt Events, Artifakt News, Artists, Events, General, Music
It’s that time of year again…the time of year where Artifakt is looking to recruit new artists. Do you have what it takes to be in an Artifakt Art Show? If you think that you do –or know someone who does– send an email to ripley@artifaktart.org with either 5 jpg samples of your very best work or a link to an online portfolio. We don’t care if you have never been in an art show or are a seasoned veteran. There is only one stipulation…your artwork MUST be exceptional. For those that apply, we will put your samples/portfolio through a screening process and eligible artists will be contacted and placed in the show that we think you will fit best in.
Oh yeah, if you are a DJ and want to spin at one of are events we encourage you to apply as well…just send a link to where we can hear some of your tunes or send your tunes to soundcloud.com/artifakt_rob and we will review you stuff.
Some upcoming themed art shows that we are going to be putting together over the next few months are an all 80′s art & music show, an all stencil art show, and an all graffiti art show. Once again, if you would like to be in an upcoming Artifakt Art Show send your samples/portfolio to:

And Good Luck!

WOW! Last Saturday in Tacoma we had an Artifakt event at Jazzbones and IT WENT OFF! Everyone that I talked with had a great time. The music was phenomenal and the overall vibe was awesome! I have some video that I’m going to post…courtesy of Jimmy Anderson…but I wanted to get the photos up first. Also, I want to give big ups to Jimmy Anderson who was our official Artifakt photographer for the event. And I wanted to give a shout out to Fice w/ dj Semaj, D-Black, Helladope, Reign, and Hanibal–the man with the plan. But don’t worry Tacoma…we have some more epic events in store. below are my top 5 favorite pics from the night. Check the rest here BOH!

Artifakt Artist Profile: Nick Beery
Posted by: Ripley in Art, Artifakt News, Artists, Events, General
I have decided to start writing about artists that I find interesting…and hopefully you will too. Today I am writing about Nick Beery. Nick is new to Artifakt but not new to Seattle, or art for that matter. Nick will be displaying art at our Feb 12th Valentine Theme show. Here is a list of what Nick offers from his twitter page. Illustrator / Designer / Photographer / Painter / Art Director & Product Line Manager for Defiant Skate : Master of killer designs and wickedly unique products. Another genre that this artist reaches is clothing. Nick’s designs are interesting and go to help the environment. Check out his latest design below or visit his blog:
“My She’s Green design is now available in men’s and women’s tees at Goodjoe. It was my duty to create a positively inspiring message that is fashionable and eco-conscious. Goodjoe does “good” by donating $1 dollar from each sale to a nonprofit organization. Creating a better world through positive influence through visual art is amazingly gratifying. The garments are also eco-sustainable, made from bamboo and organic cotton.”

Troy Gua in Tacoma
Posted by: Ripley in Art, Artifakt News, Artists, Events, General
From January till March there is an artistic event that is happening in Tacoma at the Fulcrum Gallery. The installation/event is called Monument and is created by a friend of ours named Troy Gua. Monument is an installation having to deal with loss and war. If you are in Tacoma be sure to stop by and check this out. Here is a description of the installation from the Fulcrum Gallery:
Monument

a memorial to loss – troy gua
January 21st – March 13th
Opening Reception Thursday January 21st 6-9 pm
Artist Talk / Closing Reception Thursday February 18th 6 pm
Troy Gua is a product of the late 1970/80′s shiny American Dream. His multi-layered work embodies a glossy immortality and deceptive complexity that marked the era and encourages closer investigation. Enter “Monument” a response to a similar glossing over of reality specifically with our war in Iraq. “This installation is my memorial to loss. I’m not a soldier I have never seen war. How do we reconcile this experience? How do we grieve loss?

1308 Martin Luther King Jr. Way

Awesome Color Palettes!
So, my friend Jake showed me this awesome site last week for color pallets. This site is especially useful for graphic designers and web designers. The site has amazing color combinations that really pop! Check out the site here. Here is a screen shot of the site so you can see what I’m talking about. Enjoy!

New Artwork by Rob Ripley
Posted by: Ripley in Art, Artifakt News, Artists, General
Every now and then an artist must create new work. Sometimes there are events that happen which inspires an artist to create, and there are circumstances which lead an artist to create. Next month there is a show in which I will be displaying new work in Seattle at lofi on Feb 12th, and I will also be creating new art for Tacoma as well. The theme of this new artwork is sort of specific to me, but as always, I will leave it up to the viewer to make their own decisions. Now, I think that it’s safe to say that most people have dealt with some sort of loss whether it’ s losing a job, a friend, a girl, a dog, a bottle of wine, a pack of smokes, a lawnmower, a car…etc. I have created a series of photographs that are reminiscent of some emotions that we all have. I leave the viewer to make their own opinions on what the photos mean…the whole point is to invoke a response or make the viewer reflect on something in their life. The series of photographs are on my flickr account and there are two stories within the first 23 photographs. The first story is 1-13 and the second is 14-23…please go here to view The new work will be displayed as a photo collage wheatpaste on wood. To see some of my other work you can check out my website at: www.ripleysite.com Oh yeah, before I forget, the lovely model in the photos name is Jen, and she has been my muse for quite some time.
Enjoy!
